Almont Village council president Steve Schneider owes Lapeer County and the Village of Almont ALMOST SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS in DELINQUENT TAXES?!
IT'S TRUE!
Almont village council president Steve Schneider receives COMPENSATION for his role on the council. Not a lot of money, just $35 per meeting, for a total of $840 per year. (according to the Clerk and Treasurer's office as of 9.30.19)
So these aren't big bucks, just one more drop in the bucket of taxes MOST OF US pay - and pay on time.
Almont village council president Steve Schneider is perfectly willing to take that compensation - such as it is - FROM US. But when it was his turn to PONY UP some 2018 taxes WE ALL got THIS in return....

He USED TO live in this home.
He didn't pay a water OR sewer bill because the HOUSE IS ON A PRIVATE WELL!
He doesn't live on Mari Lane anymore. Now he has a senior apartment in The Bells and HE DOESN'T PAY a water bill there, either. Bells residents pay no utility bills, except for their phone service.
It's interesting that one of the persons who KEEPS RAISING OUR WATER RATES in Almont was completely - and is still largely - IMMUNE to the effects of the rate increases HE approves.
Must be nice.
I suppose, as Steve is SO FOND of telling residents who attend council meetings, WE should just "be happy" OUR water rates aren't higher.

Almont village council president Steve Schneider lost his home on Mari Lane in a Sheriff sale in May 2019.

Steve's website states he is president of the village* and holds a seat on all village boards, including the planning commission, Downtown
Development Authority, zoning board of appeals, park Board, is a member of multiple committees, and is a member of the Almont Chamber of Commerce.
WOW! That's a lot of responsibility!
And a lot of POWER - think about THAT for a few seconds.
Does it seem funny to you that someone who has all those responsibilities and is a "licensed attorney" CAN'T PAY HIS OWN TAXES or HIS OWN MORTGAGE?
Well, I suppose it's possible he just FORGOT.
After all, he is very... busy.
Of course sometimes the "inability" to make payments is really... a CHOICE.
This must be where he keeps all the receipts from his water bills, tax, and mortgage payments.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
*It should be noted that the village of Almont DOES NOT HAVE a "president". He is president of the village council, and that's NOT THE SAME THING. I'm sure it was just an oversight when he was designing his website. Yes, I'm sure it was an oversight.
